Project 1 English Rose
Reasons for the British rose project
Since the Wars of the Roses between the Houses of Lancaster and York, the rose has been the symbol of England. It is of brilliant color and blooms all year round. The Lancaster coat of arms is the red rose (Rosa Gallica) and the York coat of arms is the white rose (Rosa × Alba). The House of York was replaced by the Tudors on 22 August 1485.
When Henry VII, the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty, married Princess Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of Edward IV of York, the two rose were combined and became the Tudor rose, the coat of arms of the Tudor dynasty, the symbol of the Tudor family, representing nobility and eternity.
In the United Kingdom and many countries in Europe and the United States, the rose (actually for the ancient rose or hybrid rose) as the national flower, in order to express love, and because the stem has thorns, serious.Rose is a very popular variety of Rosaceae, which is very suitable for growing in the British climate. In the same family, rose, rose, apple, woody, pearl spirea, Tokyo cherry blossom and so on grow very well in the British climate. This also gave Britain the name of garden paradise.

David Hunter’s workshop
With the help of David Hunter’s workshop’s Mapbox tool, the first step of data visualization on a map was completed.
I have a collection of roses growing in the centre of Southampton.Divide them into different categories, such as household plants, green flower beds, central parks, etc. After summarizing, I reflected the data on the map generated by the map box.
From my 8 days of walking statistics of Southampton in part of the rose plant situation. The symbol of rose represents the area where flowers appear, the size of flowers represents the planting amount in the same area, and the density represents the frequency of occurrence nearby.
Based on a statistical standard of 100 men and 100 women each, the inhabitants of Southampton are interested in the common species of flowers common to the rose family
From Greek and Roman times to the present day, the rose has been a symbol of beauty, transience and eternal love. The romantic relationship with roses is thought to have originated in Egypt, where Cleopatra seduced Mark Antony by laying a pile of rose petals on her boudoir floor.
In court love, for example, the rose was the iconic symbol of the beloved lady — or the reward of her love itself — the most elaborate incarnation of a 13th-century French epic. An illustrated medieval fable that chronicled the art of chivalric love and its many aspects. It was written by Guillaume Deloris and completed 40 years later by Jean de Mont. The Virgin Mary, in medieval pious verse (religious poems dealing with subjects such as Jesus Christ), the Virgin Mary is often referred to as the “rose without thorns” because she has no original sin.
In fact, the five petals of the wild rose are often equated with Mary’s five joys (the five key moments that brought Mary joy, the five key moments (laying, birth, resurrection, ascension, and hypothesis) and the five letters of her full name, Mary. At this time, the rose as queen of flowers was a symbol of Mary’s privilege, as can be seen from the lyrics of this song from 1420: a rose without this virtue, like the rose that gave birth to the Jesuit; Hallelujah. For heaven and earth are small in this rose; Rachel: Reese Miranda. Medieval art often depicted the Virgin Mary in an enclosed rose garden — a representation of the Garden of Eden, but also a place where court lovers could retire. The Christmas rose is a leathery white flower with five petals that blooms at Christmas.
It symbolizes the birth of Jesus and appears in medieval carols and seasonal hymns to the Virgin. The thorns stem of the rose is said to have wrapped around Jesus’ head during his crucifixion, and its red flowers were symbols of secular love and martyrdom, which is probably why over time they became associated with St. Valentine’s Day. From the 12th century onwards, the image of the rose blossomed in Europe with the spread of religious belief in Mary. The medieval rose, with its Christian symbolism of love and sacrifice, is now so strongly religious that it blooms into architecture and is incorporated into the architecture of Gothic churches in the form of rose Windows.
The rose continues to be revered until the 13th century, where we have the main appearance of the rosary (Latin: Rosalind A group of prayer beads made as a rose garland.
Britain to the rose as the national flower, there are historical factors.
In the 15th century, the war of the roses lasted for 30 years, which completely broke down the feudal value system in England and was replaced by the Tudor dynasty, which established a constitutional monarchy. This dynasty brought economic and cultural prosperity to Britain because of its enlightened leadership.
In this war, both sides are marked with red and white roses. In order to commemorate this event, the British people adopted the rose as their national flower. Roses are beautiful in color and bloom all the year round. Symbol of nobility and permanence, so, the British and it as the royal emblem. The national flower of England is Tudorrose, an artificial flower created by the combination of red and white roses, which is not found in nature.
In Britain and many countries in Europe and the United States, the rose (rose) as the national flower, in order to express love, and because the stem has thorns, said serious. In Christianity, according to legend, Jesus was sold, was nailed to the cross, blood drops in the soil, the cross will grow rose.
Take Tess Austen English rose, which has been cultivated in my family for 6 years, as an example. From the point of flowering quantity, the first three years are the growth period of the vine rose. The number of flowers increases year by year. The number of flowering increased sharply from 3 years to 5 years, the range was relatively stable, and began to decline by the 6th year.Spring is in May, the second wave is in September, and there are hardly any flowers in winter.
